Tiny TFX Update - 5th July, 2012
|
Whoops. Found a very small error in 'Interdict' on the LAPC-I version of TFX - the cymbol right at the start shouldn't have been panned hard left.
For those who've already downloaded the new two-part versions, here's a link to the fixed FLAC.

Soundtrack Update, others removed - 29th July, 2012
|
Well, good and bad news. For the good news, TFX's Roland LAPC-I soundtrack has been updated - cleaned up and recorded on the TerraTec soundcard.
It's now in two parts to help those with slower connections (like me). You don't need both parts to extract - they're separate.
The bad news is that I've pulled all the MIDI soundtracks that I don't 'have' permission to share - I'm sure if I could contact the right people I'd be allowed to, but right now I'm sticking to sharing stuff that I have been given permission to share - Barry Leitch gave me permission to share his, Dean Evans' and Ian Howe's, while Matt Furniss seems to be alright with people sharing his old work. Main reason for this - I don't want to get into any possible legal trouble, as I have seen others get into in the past. Sorry everyone, but I'd rather not get caught up in rubbish like that. |
Soundtrack Update & New Hardware - 26th July, 2012
|
A couple of weeks ago I managed to win a Roland Sound Canvas 55 on eBay. That now makes three devices I own based on the Sound Canvas series.
What I find surprising is that the SC-55 seems to have a slightly better output compared to my CM-300 - some instruments sound crisper. Considering
they have pretty different PCBs, this makes some sense. The ROM on the SC-55 is also a bit older than the CM-300, so a GM or GS reset does not clear
the reverb buffer. I'll be using this now to get SCC-1, SC-55 and General MIDI soundtracks recorded on the TerraTec external sound card.
First up is the SC-55/SCC-1 version of Inferno, which now means it's been entirely recorded on the much higher quality sound card. Second up is just one track, but a good one in my opinion - 'European Champions' by Barry Leitch. I had a feeling the game was playing this too fast, and after getting hold of the original file and playing it back in MEDIT, I was right - this recording is the correct speed as Barry intended. I really need to get the update for TFX finished... |
Soundtrack Update - 17th June, 2012
|
And here's another soundtrack update - the Roland LAPC-I / CM-32L version of Inferno. I've also fixed a couple of bugs I encountered
in the old recordings (mostly weird instrument panning).

New sound card - 31st May, 2012
|
Recordings are going to be slowly re-done since I have been given a much better sound card than I was originally using. The new sound card is a TerraTec DMX
6Fire USB, and was given to me by Stefan L. The recording and playback quality of this sound card is far beyond anything I have ever heard. It's much easier
to record with since the only noise the recordings pick up are from the Roland modules themselves, and setting the correct volume is much easier since the
TerraTec requires a very high input before it'll clip (identified by the red LEDs flashing on the front of the card).
I've already got Utopia re-done and uploaded, so that's available to download again. Because of the new high quality sound card, all the recordings are now at a much better sampling rate of 44.1KHz, and I have also decided to not do the pan shift as I have done before - the recordings are not altered in anyway. The only thing I do is cut, normalise/amplify to -1db and add fadeouts where needed. Nothing more. Inferno and TFX are slowly being re-done at the moment, but I have no date on when they'll be finished. - Koli |
